Peggy Hull [Henrietta Deuell] becomes the first accredited woman war correspondent, and covers the American Expeditionary Force intervention in Siberia for the Cleveland Press, after working as an unaccredited correspondent in wartime France. In January 1932 she reports on the Japanese attack on Shanghai for the New York Daily News, then covers the Pacific Theater of Operations for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the North American Newspaper Alliance. Her Ernie Pyle-like "little stories of war" earn her a Navy Commendation.
