Episode 4 Journal
What did you think of today's challenge?
I never cease to be amazed! Today's challenge touched on purchasing (which is one of my strengths) and was our first team challenge. I had fun with it.
What did you prepare today?
Apple salad, beef tartar, beef carpaccio, beef tournedos with pluots, sticky rice with mango.
How do you think you did? Is there anything you wish you'd done better?
I did OK today (scale 1-10, 7). I wish I had tasted the carpaccio myself (for salt) and of course I will always try to be faster.
What was the highlight of the day's events?
Winning! Having a heart attack when I found out, and meeting chef Robert Gadsby at Noe.
Are there any lessons you took away from today?
Hot/cold/hot/cold. Be confident, organized, and trust my gut!
What was the most constructive or interesting piece of feedback you heard from the judges?
I seasoned (sweetened) the sticky rice perfectly, my plates were on point, make sure everything has the perfect amount of salt.
How do you think you are doing in relation to your fellow competitors?
I think working in a team is easier for me than others. I am learning from all of them. My lists are key to my success.
Who do you think is faring the best and why (we recognize this changes from day-to-day)?
I did not hear critiques today, and I paid very little attention to how other people worked today. I was impressed by my partner Matt.
What do you think your fellow competitors think of you (we recognize this changes from day-to-day)?
They know I won today with Matt, but each day we are not judged on a cumulative score so tomorrow is a whole new day. We got LUCKY today.
