Ten years ago, the uprising in Syria began. Years of devastating loss, resilience, and hope marked the days of Syrian citizens who pursued freedom for themselves and the future of Syria. Join the PBS series FRONTLINE and Boston University College of Communication in a special discussion event about Syria and the power of storytelling, featuring the Oscar-nominated documentary “For Sama.” The film tells the astonishing story of Waad al-Kateab (TIME 2020 100 List), a filmmaker and journalist who filmed her life during five years of the brutal conflict in Aleppo. She recorded powerful, intimate, and moving movements as she falls in love with a doctor, gets married, and gives birth to Sama. The film is an intimate journey into the female experience of war, and garnered multiple awards world-wide, including the Golden Eye Documentary Prize at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. The discussion will also address the decade of journalism that FRONTLINE has dedicated to raising awareness about the conflict in Syria.
