Congratulations to filmmaker Alison Klayman whose film Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry won a “Special Jury Prize for Spirit of Defiance” at the Sundance Film Festival this past weekend.

Last March, FRONTLINE aired a short film by Klayman, Who’s Afraid of Ai Weiwei?, which profiles how China’s first global art star is using his fame to push the boundaries of freedom in his country. (You can watch the film above.)

While accepting her award, Klayman asked everyone in the audience to raise their middle finger in tribute to the provocative artist’s penchant for photographing his own raised middle finger in a defiant gesture.

Klayman took a photo of the audience, promising to send it to Ai in Beijing.
