After three straight weeks in which the number of officially reported head injuries reached into double digits, teams appeared to experience a sharp drop in concussions during Week 14 of the NFL season.
At least three players left games to be evaluated for a head injury this past weekend, while two others took hits that raised concern over a possible concussion. With the playoffs quickly approaching, here are the names we’ll be watching for when teams start releasing their final injury reports of the week:

Brent Celek, TE, Philadelphia Eagles
Tight end Brent Celek was hit in the back of the head after catching a pass on the Eagles’ first drive of the game on Sunday. He was helped off of the field after the play and taken to the locker room where he was diagnosed with a concussion. “For him to go out, I’ll tell you it was a pretty good [hit],” coach Andy Reid said. The Philadelphia Inquirer later reported that the sideline video replay monitors that team trainers and doctors use to see how injuries happen were not working. “Because Brent was complaining of neck pain and said he had lost consciousness, I wanted to see it on the monitor. I went over and they said it wasn’t up and running,” Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder said. Burkholder added that the malfunction wasn’t the first of the season. “I wish I could say it was, but it’s not,” he said.

Morris Claiborne, CB, Dallas Cowboys
Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne missed practice this week because of a concussion he sustained Sunday in the team’s 20-19 win over the Bengals, the Dallas Morning News reported. Claiborne was hurt after colliding with teammate Danny McCray along the sideline in the third quarter.
Week 15 injury report status: Concussion, questionable to play
Antonio Cromartie, CB, New York Jets
Eighteen cornerbacks have suffered concussions this season, more than any other position in the league except for wide receivers. On Sunday, Antonio Cromartie may have become number 19. Cromartie left the Jets’ 17-10 win over the Jaguars with an apparent head injury in the fourth quarter, ESPN reported, though he later returned to the game.
Week 15 injury report status: Not on report
Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears
Bears quarterback Jay Cutler already has one concussion this season — an injury he sustained Week 10. On Sunday against the Vikings, Cutler was knocked out of the game after a hard hit from defensive end Everson Griffen. After the game, the Bears characterized the injury as a sore neck, and Cutler told ESPN that “unless something drastic happens,” he will “absolutely” play next week against the Packers.
Week 15 injury report status: Neck, probable to play
Craig Dahl, S, St. Louis Rams
Rams safety Craig Dahl left Sunday’s 15-12 win over the Bills in the fourth quarter to be evaluated for a head injury. Coach Jeff Fisher later told the media that Dahl was diagnosed with concussion. Dahl also suffered a concussion in a 2010 game against the Raiders.
Week 15 injury report status: Head, probable to play
A.J. Jefferson, CB, Minnesota Vikings
Cornerback A.J. Jefferson went down with a concussion in the fourth quarter of the Vikings’ 21-14 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, according to the Associated Press. Jefferson was injured after a scary collision with two teammates while trying to tackle running back Matt Forte. ESPN reported that Jefferson “didn’t move for several seconds afterward but ended up walking off the field on his own and was seen in the locker room after the game.”
Week 15 injury report status: Concussion, probable to play
Nate Livings, G, Dallas Cowboys
Guard Nate Livings was one of two Cowboys injured in the team’s win over the Bengals. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Livings was held from practice this week because of a concussion he sustained Sunday. It is unclear when Livings was hurt, but according to the Star-Telegram, he missed part of the fourth quarter, but returned to the game for the team’s game-winning drive.
