Congratulations to Director/Producer Steve James and Producer Alex Kotlowitz and their whole team at Kartemquin Films on winning best documentary at last night’s Independent Spirit Awards.

The Interrupters, which aired on FRONTLINE on Feb. 14, follows three “violence interrupters” who, with bravado, humility and even humor, work to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they themselves once employed.

“This means a lot for a film like this,” James said upon accepting the award. “It’s about urban violence. We didn’t realize the impact this film would have.”

You can watch The Interrupters here.
