Murdoch’s Scandal

Murdoch's Scandal
Rupert Murdoch, centre, attempts to speak to the media after he held a meeting with the parents and sister of murdered school girl Milly Dowler in London, Friday, July 15, 2011. The lawyer for the Milly Dowler’s family says Rupert Murdoch has issued a full and sincere apology to the murdered schoolgirl’s family for the actions of journalists at his newspaper. Mark Lewis told reporters that the media baron called the private meeting and apologized “many times,” telling the Dowlers the events that transpired at the News of the World tabloid were not in keeping with the standards set out when his own father entered the media industry.

March 27, 2012

Over half a century Rupert Murdoch’s business audacity and political shrewdness built one of the world’s most powerful media empires. Now his dynasty is under threat — not from outside competition, but from shocking accounts of bribery, blackmail, and invasion of privacy. The scandal has prompted criminal investigations on both sides of the Atlantic. It has also cracked open the insular world of the Murdoch family, its news executives, and the political elite who court their favor.
