Kathleen Hughes is an award-winning director, producer and writer of documentary film and other media. Before directing Two American Families 1991-2024 with Tom Casciato, she directed The American Dream and Other Fairy Tales with Abigail Disney. which premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. From 2020 to 2023, she was the Executive producer of the podcast, All Ears With Abigail Disney. In 2015 she produced and co-directed the feature documentary, The Armor of Light with Disney, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. It won an Emmy award and was shortlisted for the Peabody Award. Kathleen served as the Executive Producer of WNET’s multi-platform series Blueprint America, where she oversaw the creation of reports about America’s crumbling infrastructure for a wide range of public media outlets. She directed Bill Moyers’ Emmy Award-winning documentary, Buying The War. Along with three national Emmys, her work has garnered the duPont-Columbia Gold Baton, the Gracie Award, the Sidney Hillman Prize, the Dateline Club’s Society of Professional Journalists’ First Amendment Award, the Harry Chapin Media Award, and the Christopher Award.
