Skye Lucas
Murray Journalism Fellow, FRONTLINE/Missouri School of Journalism Fellowship
Skye Lucas is a 2025 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. At Mizzou, she focused on data journalism, and studied broader factors influencing the media industry such as communication law.
Prior to completing her master’s at Mizzou, she was a recipient of the Real Arts internship from the University of Pennsylvania in 2021 and moved to Montana to intern and then work at a small independent newspaper, The Flathead Beacon. She also did local reporting in graduate school for Missouri Business Alert and covered housing matters statewide. She also contributed to the Columbia Missourian for a collaborative investigative series on concussions and separately, laid the foundation for an upcoming series by fellow Mizzou journalism students about critical mineral recovery in Missouri. For her master’s thesis, Skye researched how Japanese journalists practiced journalism and more specifically understood press freedom in Japan during the U.S. occupation after WWII.
Skye frequently describes her past and present career in journalism as a “license to be curious,” and whether in the Flathead Valley in Montana, greater Missouri, or now with a nationally-focused outlet, she relishes the opportunity to learn more about our world and invite more people to try to make sense of it.
