Sunny Nagpaul

Tow Journalism Fellow, FRONTLINE/Newmark Journalism School Fellowship

Sunny Nagpaul is a reporter who covers business, science, the climate, and politics. She focuses on how policy impacts marginalized communities and pursues investigations on systemic issues, like low wages, corporate concentration, and national policies.

She received her master's degree in journalism in 2023 from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, where she reported for two hyper-local publications in the South Bronx, addressing issues like Black maternal morbidity and mortality, mental health resources and Bronx fashion. She also reported on how insect farms in Oregon are providing a local supply of natural fertilizers, reducing international reliance on chemical fertilizers and improving soil's health and ability to store carbon.

After graduating from Newmark, she completed a six-month fellowship at Fortune Magazine where she reported on national breaking news in finance, technology and business. There, she also wrote long-form features on the challenges incarcerated women face upon release from prison, student protests and acts of civil disobedience, the historical legacy of South Bronx residents being neglected by the city and state, and poor conditions at city homeless shelters that went unfixed for years.

Her work has previously been published in outlets including Fortune Magazine, Atmos, The Baltimore Banner, City Limits, The Indypendent, Illinois Eagle and more.
