Your Arsenal
There are three main kinds of defense your body uses against bad guys
(not just bad-guy bacteria, but bad-guy viruses and parasites, too). Meet the
players:
The macrophage stays on constant duty, traveling throughout your body.
It is first on the scene when a bad guy gets in, gobbling up and breaking down
the bad guy into a recognizable form. Then it calls in the next player: The
T-cell.
Once the T-cell recognizes the bad guy, several things happen: T-cells initiate
a response, bind to the bad guys, and kill them. During this process the
T-cells call in the last big player, the B-cells, to look for the bad
guys and mark them for destruction by T-cells.
