Changi International Rail Terminal (1997-2001)
The focus of the rail terminal project is a 200-yard, clear-span pedestrian bridge -- the longest in the world. The elegantly arching bridge is constructed of translucent glass illuminated from within, which will serve as one of the primary light sources for the terminal. Anchoring the bridge at either end are two, 130-foot glass atria supported by a web of cables that allows for an unobstructed view of the tropical gardens and waterfalls surrounding the building. These atria allow natural light from outside to pass into the terminal during the day and are illuminated from within at night, making the terminal a beacon on the landscape.
