Asadollah-Badamchian

[TEHRAN BUREAU] Source Mehr News Agency and Rahesabz.com Assadollah Badamchian, Deputy Head of the Islamic Coalition party, said it was not necessary for Seyyed Mohammad Khatami or Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani to attend the inauguration ceremony of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Reports indicate that the two veteran politicians will be absent from the inauguration ceremony. Rafsanjani has decided to visit Kerman Province to address university students there and Khatami has decided to boycott the ceremony.

Defeated candidate Mehdi Karroubi has also announced that he will not be present at the inauguration ceremony. The grandson of Ayatollah Khomeini, Seyyed Hassan, will also be visiting Syria on Monday and therefore absent from the event.

Regarding the absence of Khatami, Rafsanjani and Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, Badamchian said, "This is a personal matter and not an important one to speculate about."

Badamchian went on to urge Reformists to refrain from questioning the trial of those detained after the election, which includes a number of Reformists, and advised them to wait for the court to finish its work.

He also advised Reformists to return to the values of the Revolution.

Regarding the questions raised about the necessity of trying Mohammad-Ali Abtahi in Clerical Court, Badamchian said it was not unprecedented for non-clerics [sic] to be tried in Clerical Court [sic], and that this was for the judge and the judiciary to decide.

Oh yes, it's very important for this Kangaroo Court to finish handing out verdicts to the accused after isolating them for more than a month and not allowing them access to lawyers.
