Ataollah Mohajerani described the trial of those arrested after the election as the third act in an ongoing play in which the fourth act was the elimination of Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani.
"It appears that this scenario has a fourth act and that is to bring down [Seyyed Mohammad] Khatami, Hashemi [Rafsanjani] and [Mir Hossein] Mousavi and the confessions in court yesterday were an intro to the fourth act," said Mohajerani, who served as the minister of culture and Islamic guidance under president Khatami.
Regarding Mohammad Ali Abtahi's claim about Hashemi [Rafsanjani], Khatami and Mousavi forging an alliance, Mohajerani said, "Anyone who knows Mr. Hashemi and has the slightest bit of political savvy knows fully well that given Hashemi's character and his position as the head of the Expediency Council, his alliance with one of the candidates would be out of the question and meaningless."
"They are only after the complete elimination of the Reformist parties and Hashemi, who they view as the architect of reform," he said.
