[TEHRAN BUREAU] Source: ILNA Dariush Qanbari, a spokesman for the Reformist faction of the Iranian Parliament, said they believe the trials of those arrested after the election, where not even the minimum legal procedures were observed, were an insult to the establishment and its officials.

Qanbari said that the defendants, their lawyers and their families had not been informed about the exact date of the trial. "Yesterday's court session was not an open one because the families and lawyers of the detainees were not present," he added.

He went on to say the faction believes that the charges brought against the defendants were not clear. "Only two of the detainees read political statements in court and this is contrary to the conventional method of reading the charges and issuing indictments," he said.

"The defendants were not charged alike, and the fact that political activists and those on trial for possession of illegal firearms and having ties with the MKO were seated next to one another is only a ploy to suggest an affinity between these individuals in the mind of the people," he added.

"The faction agreed today that holding a session under the name of a court to review the charges against political activists is illogical, as the common conscience will not accept this, and the people, given the historical image they have in mind of such trials, will refuse to accept it."

"Given the negative reports about certain detention centers such as the one in Kahrizak, the public will not pass a positive judgment about what was said in yesterday's court."

"The reformist faction believes the people's psychological security should not be jeopardized in any way. But unfortunately what happened [in yesterday's court] was not along this line."

Unfortunately (or fortunately?), the current regime couldn't care less about the opinions of the people and their representitives. Because of this, they'll keep to their ways and make themselves look stupider and stupider every day.

But it's important for the reformists to continue to keep to their ways and continue to criticize the hardliners about their inconsistencies and lies. At least when push comes to shove, we'll be able to say that we attemped the legal diplomatic way but the boneheads were incapable of comprehending the real world.

I must say though, they're deffinitely making things move much faster than normal with their incredibly high level of stupidity.

This trial is a hoax to the highest decree. Iranians have opened their eyes. They no longer believe in the lies and tricks of this malevolent regime.

I only wish that with the new development in Iran, people will not deter from finding justice and true freedom.

Set Iran Free!

When people in power start to do stupid & ridiculous things, they tend to keep going, and the degree of ridiculousness worsens as if to legitimize the original stupidity. Look at North Korea ... the government and leader of that country are an absolute joke. The things they say and do would be funny if it wasn't for all the innocent North Koreans they are putting in jeopardy and the instability they are causing in the region. Iran, unfortunately, is heading in the same direction with this nonesense if the regime is not stopped.
