[TEHRAN BUREAU] Source: INN.ir Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani's daughter-in-law was among those detained in protests sparked by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's endorsement ceremony.
According to the Iran Newspaper on Network report, Mehdi Hashemi [Rafsanjani]'s wife was arrested near Vanak Square and handed over to authorities. She has since been released.
Five members of Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani's family were also arrested in Azadi Avenue on June 21, 2009, for participating in "illegal protests and inciting and encouraging rioters," according to the report.
The five included Faezeh Hashemi and her daughter, as well as Hossein Marashi's wife, daughter, and sister-in-law. (Marashi is Rafsanjani's wife's cousin.)
According to the INN report, Faezeh Hashemi later claimed that she was not protesting at the time of her arrest and that she had been looking for a 'sandwich shop' in the area.
