Biography
Cassady Rubins is the principal cataloger and an auctioneer at Auctions at Showplace in New York. She developed an early interest in history while participating in archaeological digs in Colorado and Virginia, and later apprenticed with Leo Arons at the Gilded Lion Antiques and Fine Art Gallery in Princeton. She began her career in the auction world during college as an intern at Rago Arts and Auction Center, where she later joined the staff full-time.
Ms. Rubins studied art history and English literature at The College of New Jersey, and spent two summers working in the archives at the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Cornwall, England, cataloging a large collection of ephemera. After earning her bachelor’s degrees, she moved to Vienna, Austria, to study at Universität Wien.
Now based in New York City, Ms. Rubins oversees a busy cataloging department, where she evaluates everything from ceramics and furniture to fine art and decorative objects from every part of the world and all time periods. In addition to her work behind the scenes, she is also an active auctioneer and enjoys the energy of the salesroom. She is especially drawn to objects with unusual stories and is always on the lookout for unexpected finds tucked away in estates and collections.
