Biography
Richard Cervantes is an Asian Art specialist who has worked in the auction industry since 2006. An Ohio lakeshore native, Richard now works in Manhattan and calls Philadelphia home
He was previously a vice president at Freeman’s, where he was both head of the Oriental Rugs and Carpets department and the Asian Arts department.
In 2016, Richard moved to Heritage Auctions where he founded the firm’s Asian Works of Art department that is now a fixture at Asia Week New York, an exclusive Asian Art trade membership organization.
Since 2020, Richard has been senior vice president and head of Asian Arts at Doyle, New York’s venerable family-owned Fine Art and Estate Auction firm headquartered on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Richard is a USPAP-compliant appraiser who frequently contributes to formal appraisals for estate tax, insurance, and IRS gift tax purposes. In addition, he produces auctions of Fine Asian Artworks featuring art and objects from China, Japan, Korea, the Himalayas, India, and Southeast Asia.
Richard Cervantes has an undergraduate degree in history and an MA in medieval Italian literature. Apart from treasuring travel with his family, he is a youth baseball coach and rough collie enthusiast.
