Appraisal: 1961-1963 Kennedy & Johnson-signed Photos

Under traumatic circumstances Lyndon B. Johnson took the oath of office as 36th U.S. President aboard Air Force One on November 22, 1963, just hours after President John F. Kennedy's assassination in Dallas.

"... The press secretary said, 'Thank God you're here, Cecil. The president's going to take his oath on the plane, and you're going to have to service the wires with a photograph.'"

The now iconic photograph of that swearing-in was taken by Kennedy's official White House photographer, Army Capt. Cecil W. Stoughton. Stoughton brought his own signed copy of the photo, along with many other pieces of historic memorabilia, to the Orlando ROADSHOW in June 2007, where he discussed his experiences with appraiser Francis Wahlgren.

See a gallery of Stoughton's personal archive below.
