2021 Appraisal Contest — Official Rules
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW APPRAISAL CONTEST (the “Contest”)
The television series ANTIQUES ROADSHOW is produced by WGBH Educational Foundation (“GBH”). Either GBH or ANTIQUES ROADSHOW shall mean both the series and its producer.
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW will be holding five, private, closed-set video recording productions in 2021 (the “Production(s)”). Entry will be by invitation only.
All persons attending a Production agree to comply with the Production Attendance Rules contained below in these Official Rules, and all federal, state and local COVID-19 prevention rules, regulations and guidelines in effect at the time of the Production and any other protocols established by ANTIQUES ROADSHOW as it determines are in the best interest of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW and all persons at its Production.
Entry to and attendance of any person at the Productions will be entirely subject to the sole and absolute discretion of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW.
Each Entrant acknowledges compliance with these Official Rules including all eligibility requirements contained herein. By entering the Contest and/or accepting invitations, Entrants and/or Winners agree to adhere to these Official Rules.
Each person entering the Contest (“Entrant”) must complete the online entry form which requires the Entrant to select a Production location and submit photograph(s) of an item and their description of that item (“Entry”), which item ANTIQUES ROADSHOW may select to be appraised by an ANTIQUES ROADSHOW expert (“Appraisal”), and which Appraisal may be recorded by ANTIQUES ROADSHOW, at one of its Productions as selected by Entrant from the five (5) locations listed below on the dates specified.
- Wadsworth Mansion, Middletown CT, August 10;
- Omni Mount Washington Resort, Bretton Woods, NH, September 2
(Original production date of September 1 was changed on July 1, 2021.)
- Hempstead House at the Sands Point Preserve, Sands Point NY, September 14;
- Colonial Williamsburg, Williamsburg VA, September 28;
- Grounds For Sculpture, Hamilton NJ, October 6.
When to Enter
All Entries must be submitted between May 10 and June 7, 2021 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time (“Entry Period”). Any Entries received outside the Entry Period may be discarded without consideration or be considered void.
There is a limit of two (2) online Entries, per household and email address. ANTIQUES ROADSHOW will not accept more than two (2) Entries from the same email address or the same street address and will not accept more than one (1) Entry for each item. Winners will only receive one Prize regardless of the number of Entries submitted by that individual Contest Entrant.
Winners will receive one (1) invitation to the Production at which Winner may receive one free appraisal of their selected item(s) by an ANTIQUES ROADSHOW expert, which appraisal may be recorded by ANTIQUES ROADSHOW (the “Prize” or “Invitation”). Being selected and granted an Invitation does not guarantee Winners will receive an appraisal or be recorded for television, which is at ANTIQUES ROADSHOW’S sole discretion.
No Commercial Value
No purchase is necessary to enter to be selected. Prizes are for personal use only, have no commercial or retail value, and resale is strictly prohibited. Invitations may not be transferred or assigned to another person.
Number of Winners
Up to one hundred and thirty (130) valid Entries may be selected to receive an Invitation for each Production listed above, at ANTIQUES ROADSHOW’s sole discretion.
Selection of Winners
Entrants who submit photos of their items, in conjunction with their accompanying information, that especially appeal to and pique the interest of producers of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW may be selected from all valid Entries with valid email addresses received during the Entry Period (“Winners”). This process is also referred to as “wowing” the Producers.
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW will determine at its sole and absolute discretion which entries, if any, may be selected. ANTIQUES ROADSHOW’s decision is final.
Each Winner may bring one adult guest from the Winner’s household (the “Authorized Guest”), subject to the Production Attendance Rules below.
Winning minors must bring a parent or guardian as their companion. No other companions may accompany a minor.
Each Entrant must input all required data on the online entry form. Incomplete or inaccurate entries may be deemed void.
How to Enter
Entry to the Contest is by use of the online entry form and following the instructions on the entry page located at https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/tickets/, including a description of the item(s) in twenty (20) words or less, a brief story behind the item in two hundred (200) words or less, at least one photograph of the item that complies with the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW upload criteria (which are provided on the entry form) and selecting an item category from the drop-down list on the entry form. Entrants may submit up to two (2) Entries for up to two (2) different items.
Entrants must also include their name, phone number, street address and a valid email address for each Entry.
Each Entrant must have internet access and an active email account to participate.
By entering for a chance to win, Entrant agrees that at the time of entry, Entrant is available on the selected Production date and if Entrant wins Entrant will attend the Production and will bring the selected item(s) included in the winning Entry at the time designated by ANTIQUES ROADSHOW on the day of the Production, as selected by Entrant. Winners must bring the selected item(s) in order to be admitted to the Production. Entrant may not bring any other items for appraisal.
The following items will not be considered and may not be submitted: vehicles, stamps, stock certificates, paper currency, coins, bicycles, tools, fossils, glass fire extinguishers, ammunition, fireworks or any hazardous materials.
Notification of Winners
Winners will be notified by email or telephone approximately four (4) weeks prior to the specified Production for which Entrant submitted their Entry. All other Entrants will receive no notice.
Ownership of Entries
All entries and submissions (including photograph(s) or electronic images and any supporting information) become the property of GBH and neither GBH nor ANTIQUES ROADSHOW shall have any obligation to acknowledge or return the entries. Entrant agrees that the GBH shall have the non-exclusive right to use and dispose of the entries and submissions as GBH shall in its sole discretion determine, throughout the world in perpetuity.
Winners must be able to prove eligibility to the satisfaction of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW including verification of age and residence and/or parental/legal guardian consent (where required) upon request.
Entries are open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States of America, its territories and possessions, and the District of Columbia, who, at the time of entering the Contest are at least eighteen (18) years of age or the age of majority in the jurisdiction of their residence. Entrants who are residents of Alabama or Nebraska must be at least nineteen (19) years of age and residents of Mississippi or Puerto Rico must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age. Participation is void where prohibited by law.
Parents or guardians who meet the age requirements set forth above may submit an Entry on the behalf of their minor child or ward and must accompany that minor child if selected.
The following individuals are not eligible to enter the Contest and entries will not be accepted from: officers, directors, trustees, employees or agents of GBH, the Public Broadcasting Service (“PBS”), its local and/or member public television stations, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW's national sponsors, or their respective parents, divisions, subsidiaries, and/or affiliated companies, licensees, advertising, and promotional agencies, or their immediate family members (including, without limitation, spouse, parent, child, and sibling), or those living in the same households, whether or not related, of such individuals.
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW reserves the right to remove or add Production location(s) at any time, for any reason. If existing Production location(s) are removed or additional Production location(s) are added, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW will post the information on the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Website.
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW, at its sole discretion, may decide not to read or consider every submission for each Production.
Production Attendance Rules
Each Winner and their Authorized Guest (the “Attendee(s)”) must present a valid written invitation to attend a Production on the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW 2021 production tour.
The parent or legal guardian accompanying a child who is attending the Production as a Winner must be included on the invitation. Only one child may attend per invitation.
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW reserves the right to refuse or allow any item for appraisal at its sole discretion.
Photography, videotaping or recording of the Production is permitted only in designated areas.
By entering the Production, Attendees will be subject to search for any reason; Attendees agree to the terms in these Official Rules and; and understand that they attend the Production at their own risk. ANTIQUES ROADSHOW, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to deny entry or remove persons from the Production for any reason. Attendees agree to adhere to rules on signs posted at the Production or announced by any employee or member of the Production, and to the terms of the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Appearance and Materials Release.
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW will not transport Attendees or their item(s) to or from the Production. ANTIQUES ROADSHOW will not transport Attendees or their item(s) at the Production, except as it deems both necessary and safe to do so.
Attendees will be required to follow and comply with all federal, state and local COVID-19 prevention rules and regulations and any protocols established by ANTIQUES ROADSHOW at the time of the Production as it determines are in the best interests of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW and all persons at its Production which may include: completion of a COVID-19 Health Questionnaire to the satisfaction of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW; having their temperature read; to have either had a COVID-19 vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test; screening for symptoms; social distancing; and the wearing of face coverings as well as other measures.
Loss or Damage to Property
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW is not responsible for loss, damage, or theft of any items. Appraisals or estimates given are verbal approximations of value only. ANTIQUES ROADSHOW makes no representation or guarantee as to their accuracy, and/or an item's authenticity.
Antique Firearm Rules
Even if a firearm is deemed to be antique under federal law (such as a firearm manufactured prior to 1898 and for which ammunition is no longer available or manufactured), their possession and transport remain subject to the laws of the local jurisdiction. Possession and transport of firearms is subject to federal, state, and local laws. It is Entrant’s and Attendees’s responsibility to know, understand and comply with all such laws and ordinances.
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW reserves the right to admit or deny any firearms, at its discretion, in consultation with local law enforcement personnel and venue management. ANTIQUES ROADSHOW may, at its discretion, appraise Winner’s firearm only if our appraiser and local law enforcement are satisfied that it would be safe. Admission to the Production with any firearm is conditional to being subject to physical search by hand, metal detector wands, and bomb detection canines when security agents deem necessary. Use of trigger locks on all firearms is required where possible and ANTIQUES ROADSHOW reserves the right to attach one to Attendee’s firearm while at the Production.
Use of Name and Contact Information
- Selection on the Entry Form
If Entrant leaves the selection in the personal information choice box on the entry form as “yes,” Entrant agrees that Entrant’s personal information, including name, address, phone number, email address, image and any other information provided may be collected and stored by GBH or its agent and may be used by GBH or its agent for the purpose of administering this contest and to contact Entrant, including by text and that Entrant is responsible for any data or text charges that arise from any communication; and that such information may also be given to PBS and its member public television stations, including GBH, and/or the sponsors and licensees of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW so that they may contact Entrant regarding their products or services.
If an Entrant decides at a later date that Entrant wishes to have GBH remove Entrant’s contact information from its list, the Entrant may email GBH at firstname.lastname@example.org with the word "REMOVE" in the subject line and including Entrant’s name and address in the body of the email. Removal of Entrant's name will be accomplished as soon as is reasonably practicable.
If Entrant changes the selection in the personal information choice box on the entry form to “no”, Entrant agrees that Entrant’s personal information, including name, address, phone number, email address, image and any other information provided may be collected and stored by GBH or its agent and used by GBH for the purpose of administering this contest and to contact Entrant regarding the Production including by text and that Entrant is responsible for any data or text charges that arise from any communication, but in this case Entrant’s contact information will not be given to any third parties except those third-party services necessary for GBH to effect communication regarding the Production and invitation to the Production.
Choosing to share or not to share personal information, as described above, will have no effect on the producers’ selection of an Entry for a Prize.
Use of Likeness and Item
By submitting an Entry for the Contest, each Entrant grants to GBH and/or PBS the right to use Entrant's name, likeness, picture, address (city and state only), voice, biographical information, and written or oral statements, for advertising and promotional purposes in connection with ANTIQUES ROADSHOW, and/or the institutional promotion of GBH, and/or PBS, without further consideration, review, approval or payment, where allowed by law.
By entering the Production, each Winner agrees that GBH may record (but is not required to use) Winner’s name, likeness, image and voice, and any item(s) a Winner brings for appraisal, for any use whatsoever in all forms of media, including, without limitation, television, Internet, social media, products and merchandise, print and in promotion, advertising and packaging, worldwide in perpetuity. The selection of persons or items for recording is at the sole discretion of GBH.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, prior to entering the Production, Winners agree to review and sign the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Appearance and Materials Release(s)(LINK STILL TK).
Unlawful Entry to Production
Entrants acknowledge that the unlawful or unapproved resale of invitations is grounds for cancellation of that invitation, and GBH reserves the right to refuse admission to any person using or attempting to use an invitation that does not name them explicitly.
Disclaimer of Warranties, Release and Limitation on Liability
GBH MAKES NO, AND DISCLAIMS ALL, WARRANTIES, GUARANTEES OR REPRESENTATIONS, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, CONCERNING THE CONDITION, QUALITY, MERCHANTABILITY, AND/OR FITNESS OF THE INVITATIONS.
GBH, PBS, its local and/or member television stations, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW’S national sponsors and their respective officers, trustees, directors, employees, or agents thereof (collectively the “Contest Entities”) are not responsible for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure; theft or loss, destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries; or any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, providers, computer equipment or software; or failure of any e-mail or electronic entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to Entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials from any ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Contest. If for any reason, GBH is not able to conduct a Contest as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, action of Entrants, technical failures or any other causes, which in the sole opinion of GBH, corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, GBH reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any suspect entry or Entrant, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest as determined by GBH in its sole discretion. Notice of termination/modification/suspension of the Contest will be posted on the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Twitter and Instagram pages and the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW website at https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/tickets/.
By entering the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Contest, each Entrant agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with the Entry, or any Invitation awarded, will be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; (2) under no circumstances will any Entrant be permitted to obtain any award for, and each Entrant hereby and expressly waives all rights to seek punitive, incidental, consequential or special damages, lost profits and/or any other damages, including attorney’s fees, and/or any rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased; and (3) each Entrant irrevocably waives any right to seek injunctive or equitable relief.
By participating, Entrants: (1) release the Contest Entities from any and all liability for any claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by Entrant's participation, including the acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of the Invitation or Prize; and (2) acknowledge that said parties have neither made nor are in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation or guarantee, expressed or implied, in fact or in law, relative to the Invitation or Prize, as applicable, including, but not limited to, its quality or availability.
In the event of a dispute, all decisions made by GBH are final and binding. The Contest Entities are not responsible for any problems or failures encountered with the third-party Prize distribution or communication system. GBH may use third-party companies or systems to transmit email or other communications.
THE CONTEST ENTITIES AND THE VENUE WHERE THE PRODUCTION IS HELD ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BODILY OR PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR ANY OTHER LOSS RESULTING FROM USE OR ATTEMPTED USE OF THE INVITATION.
By participating in the Contest or attending a Production, Winners agree they are fully aware that there are substantial risks associated with attending a Production during the COVID-19 pandemic, including, but not limited to, being exposed to and contracting COVID-19 from individuals, surfaces, and airborne particles. The Winners acknowledge that COVID-19 is extremely infectious. Winners further acknowledge and understand that contracting COVID-19 could result in serious medical conditions, possibly requiring medical treatment in a hospital or that could lead to death.
WINNERS ACKNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTAND THAT NO ACTIONS BY THE CONTEST ENTITIES WILL GUARANTEE THAT A WINNER WILL NOT CONTRACT COVID-19 AND THE CONTEST ENTITIES MAKE NO, AND DISCLAIM ALL, WARRANTIES, GUARANTEES OR REPRESENTATIONS, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, CONCERNING A REDUCTION OF RISK IN CONTRACTING COVID-19 WHILE ATTENDING A PRODUCTION. BY ACCESSING AND USING A GIVEN PRODUCTION LOCATION, WINNERS KNOWINGLY AND FREELY ASSUME ALL RISKS, BOTH KNOWN AND UNKNOWN, RELATED TO COVID-19, INCLUDING ALL ILLNESSES, INJURIES, DAMAGES OR DEATH ARISING THEREFROM AND VOLUNTARILY AGREE TO RELEASE THE CONTEST ENTITIES FROM ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, COSTS, INJURIES, LOSSES OR DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO COVID-19 AND CONNECTED IN ANY WAY WITH A WINNER’S ATTENDANCE AT A PRODUCTION
Although GBH attempts to ensure the integrity of the entry or submission processes, the Contest Entities are not responsible for the actions of Entrants in connection with the entry or submission processes, including any Entrant’s attempts to circumvent these rules. Use of any automated system to participate in the entry or submission process is prohibited and will result in disqualification. Incomplete or inaccurate entries, entries generated by script, macro or other automated means and entries by any means which subvert the entry process will not be accepted and are void. Entries not complying with all rules are subject to disqualification.
CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT OR ANY OTHER PERSON TO DAMAGE ANY WEBSITE, TAMPER WITH THE ENTRY PROCESS, OR OTHERWISE UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE ANTIQUES ROADSHOW CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND/OR CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, GBH RESERVES THE RIGHT TO INITIATE, OR COOPERATE IN, THE PROSECUTION OF ANY SUCH PERSONS AND TO PURSUE ALL REMEDIES TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
List of Winners
Individual Entrants seeking a list of Winners for the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Contest, can mail a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Appraisal Contest Coordinator, WGBH Educational Foundation, One Guest Street, Boston, MA 02135. All such requests must be received by November 5, 2021.
Any and all federal, state and local taxes, fees and surcharges on the Invitations, if any, as well as any other costs and expenses associated with acceptance of the Invitation or Prize (including, without limitation, travel expense) are the sole responsibility of each selected Entrant.
Termination of Contest and Force Majeure
In the event GBH is prevented or refrains from: (i) conducting any part of the entry processes and/or (ii) conducting and holding any part of the Production for which Entrant has received an Invitation or Prize; GBH shall have the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the entry process and/or the Production for which Entrant has received an Invitation or Prize without liability to Entrant.
In the event GBH is prevented from: conducting and holding any part of the Production for which Winner has secured an Invitation or Prize by any event beyond its control, including but not limited to fire, flood, epidemic, pandemic, earthquake, explosion, labor dispute or strike, act of God or public enemy, communications or equipment failure, utility or service interruptions, riot or civil disturbance, terrorist threat or activity, war (declared or undeclared) or any federal state or local government law, order, or regulation, any partial or complete government shutdown or bankruptcy, or order of any court or jurisdiction, or other cause not reasonably within GBH's control (each a "Force Majeure" event or occurrence), GBH shall have the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the entry submission processes and/or the Production for which a Winner has received an Invitation or Prize.
Disputes, Governing Law and Jurisdiction
Resolution of Disputes
If any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to the Official Rules, the Contest, or the breach of any term hereof cannot be settled through direct discussions for a period of 30 days, each Entrant agrees, then, upon notice duly served, that the controversy or claim shall be resolved by binding and final arbitration administered by JAMS or its successor (“JAMS”), at JAMS’ Boston, Massachusetts office, before a single neutral arbitrator appointed in accordance with the streamlined arbitration rules and procedures, or subsequent versions thereof, including the optional appeal procedure (including the optional JAMS Rules, including, without limitation, the rule providing that each party will contribute equally to JAMS fees and expenses and the rules providing for limited discovery and other exchange of information). All disputes and arbitrations shall be governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Federal Rules of Evidence regardless of choice of law rules and there shall be no award of punitive damages. The decision of the arbitrator shall be in writing and shall include a statement of the essential conclusions and findings upon which the decision is based. The JAMS Rules are available at www.JAMSADR.com. All arbitration proceedings shall be confidential and disclosed only to those with a need to know or as may be required by law or as may be required to enforce any arbitration proceedings or awards. Judgment on any awards may be entered in the federal or state courts in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, which are the exclusive forums for such matters. In the event that the arbitration provision in these Official Rules is for any reason held to be unenforceable, any litigation against the Contest Entities (except for small-claims court actions) may be commenced only in a federal or state court located within Suffolk County, Massachusetts, and Entrant consents to the jurisdiction of those courts for such purposes.
Business with Appraisers
GBH is not responsible for any business or interaction between Winner and any appraiser who has participated in or appeared on ANTIQUES ROADSHOW prior to, during or subsequent to the Production. Attendees may not conduct any antique or collectible business at the Production. Purchase or sale of antiques at the Production is strictly prohibited.
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Name
Use of the name ANTIQUES ROADSHOW (including but not limited to in connection with the sale or purchase of any item brought to the Production) without GBH's written permission is strictly prohibited.

Failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules, the COVID-19 prevention rules and regulations and any protocols promulgated by ANTIQUES ROADSHOW, or the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Appearance and Materials Release(s) shall not constitute a waiver of that term nor of any other term contained therein.
In the event there is any typographical error, omission, conflict or inconsistency in the Official Rules, GBH reserves the right to edit the Official Rules without notice to Entrant or any other party.
In the event there is any conflict or inconsistency between the terms and provisions of the English language version of the Official Rules, and the terms and provisions of the Spanish language translation of the Official Rules, the terms and provisions of the English language version of the Official Rules shall control and govern the rights, duties and obligations of the parties.
