Roger Berkowitz is Founder and Academic Director of the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities and Professor of Politics, Philosophy, and Human Rights at Bard College. He wrote the introduction for "Hannah Arendt and Henry David Thoreau On Civil Disobedience" published by the Library of America and his new book "A World We Share: The Power of Friendship in Politics" will appear in 2026 from Yale University Press. Berkowitz is the host of the podcast, "Reading Hannah Arendt with Roger Berkowitz” and is the winner of the 2019 Hannah Arendt Prize for Political Thought, given by the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Bremen.
