Anatidae is the bird family of waterfowl—ducks, geese, and swans. It includes about 170 species found worldwide in wetland habitats and along coasts. Anatids are aquatic birds with webbed feet and typically broad bills. Diets vary widely by species and age: many eat aquatic plants and seeds, but many also eat insects, mollusks, crustaceans, and sometimes fish. Many species migrate seasonally, and breeding systems vary. Most form seasonal pair bonds, while some are polygynous or maintain longer partnerships (especially among geese and swans).
