The ostrich, or common ostrich (Struthio camelus), is a large flightless bird native to open habitats in Africa. It is the largest living bird and is easily recognized by its long neck, long powerful legs, and distinctive two-toed feet. Ostriches are the fastest birds on land, capable of sprinting at up to about 70 km/h (43 mph). They also lay the largest eggs of any living bird.
