Pigs are stout-bodied, hoofed mammals in the family Suidae (order Artiodactyla) and are typically omnivorous and gregarious. “Pig” often refers to members of the genus Sus, which includes the domestic pig and its wild ancestor, the Eurasian wild boar (Sus scrofa). Wild boar are native from Europe and North Africa across much of Asia, while domestic pigs are now found worldwide. Other suids outside the genus Sus include warthogs and babirusas. Juvenile pigs are called piglets, and pigs are widely documented as strong learners with well-studied learning and memory abilities.
