Wildebeest

Connochaetes

Wildebeest (also called gnus) are large African antelopes in the genus Connochaetes (family Bovidae, tribe Alcelaphini). They are social, grass-eating herd animals of open plains and savannas. The genus has two living species—the common/blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) and the black wildebeest (Connochaetes gnou). The blue wildebeest is famous for the Serengeti–Mara migration, in which more than a million animals move seasonally in search of food and water.
