RICH GARLOCK: The Army used robots to assist in the rescue effort and later provided them to us to use in areas we suspected were unsafe. This crew had just come over from Bosnia, where they had uncovered an incredible number of landmines. Here we unearthed a stairwell adjacent to the Marriott Hotel. We then sent the robot into the stairwell to evaluate how much of the structure was intact and to determine whether we could walk inside.
