With upholding authority deligated to elected officials, the government is a tool to maintain the enforcement of contstitutional rights at a federal and state level. Over the course of history for our country, amendments are corrections based upon issues that may not be covered in previous legislation. The whole process of election and legislative measures is based upon a democratic virtue, including due process, appeals, and Supreme Court rulings.
This particular issue is asking us if our elected and appointed issues should have the right to ignore these procedures deligated by the written law.
Spiritual guidence, religious belief, and moral values are not the issue in this procedure.

Jefferson is often held up as being a Christian and believing that the basis for morality and thus our constitution could only flow from God. It ain't so. He was not even sure there was a God and he even advised his on dearest family of his belief.
Here is part of what he said to his nephew Peter Carr.
"Religion. Your reason is now mature enough to examine this object. In the first place, divest yourself of all bias in favor of novelty & singularity of opinion. Indulge them in any other subject rather than that of religion. It is too important, and the consequences of error may be too serious. On the other hand, shake off all the fears & servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear."
What if there is know God? One thing Christians and all religions seem incapable of doing is asking themselves, "What if we are wrong?"
That makes them very, very dangerous.
I want leaders that can think and reason without the use of myth and paranormal distraction.

|
Judge Roy Moore was disbarred from the Judiciary because he said he would continue to proclaim his belief in God. He was unconstitutionally removed from office! See Article 6 of the U.S. Constitution:
"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the Several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution: but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States." To require Judge Roy Moore to deny his faith in God as a condition of taking or remaining in his office as a Judge is a religious test and is therefore unconstitutional. Re-instate Judge Roy Moore immediately!

Political leaders should rely upon reason to influence their decisions. Our founders based our Constitution upon principles of reason, not religion. Nations founded upon religious principles more resemble Iran than the United States.

I disagree to the extent in which a policy statement or decision determines upholding the foundation of this nation. It is the job of a political leader to preserve the very nature of politics founded in the USA while representing the citizens and laws already determined in this nation.

Influence? How can that not happen. If an atheist can allow their personal unbelief to influence others, how can one who believes refrain? Pressuring others to accept their belief/unbelief is another story. We the people can put in and take out of office those who go against our will.

January 27,2004

I dont care if political leaders or judges have personal religous beliefs. I just wish they wouldn't force them on other people. Ruling by reason and the laws of the land (ie the Bill of Rights,) rather than impassioned intolerant dogma. Most religions are about compassion and how to get along with eachother without killing eachother, and there is not much bad about that. Leaders need to understand they are governing for all, not just their religious sect. I think most, but not all, really try to do this.

I am certain that this country was founded on the belief that religion must be at the center of the nation. Even those founding fathers that did not believe in Christianity, such as Benjamin Franklin, had a strong respect for the Bible and its teachings. We cannot allow today's society to abandon these founding principals.

...
January 27,2004
|
America is abandoning God's laws. It will pay a very heavy price for this. The Bible states that billions of people will die during the last half of the reign of 666, the anti-Christ. Prophecy indicates that we are as in the days of Noah (corrupt, with evil ruling mankind).
This is no argument today. Sins against God dominate and the major contests are always piting huge sins against good. THE LIST?...It's simply silly - divorce, drugs, adultery, greed, lies etc. More easily said: We break the Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule and the Law of Love continuously. Save yourself, repent, pray, obey the God of Jesus.

I believe political leaders should not allow their religious beliefs influence policy statements or decisions because nothing will ever be constant. religious beliefs are so diverse that things will change everytime the position is filled by someone else.

January 27,2004

To me the most important statement made in tonight's program was that freedom of religion also includes freedom from religion. The framers of the Constitution had a clear knowledge of the problems of old world theocracies (i.e. England and Spain). They did not want to establish a system with the potential for religious persecution. Today, we detest some of the fundamentalist activities of other nations, yet we are open to the same in our country on the part of the religious right.

With Regards to same sex marriages, I believe that a constitutional amendment should not be instated to ban gay marriages in order to "protect" the institution of marriage. In my view, as a heterosexual male, marriage is about love. I myself have loved and lost, and if two people can find love in a world where hate is so easily spawned, God bless them!

I believe that God shapes all things that are moral and just. Without the involvement of christ in our everyday lives, we are doomed to be filled with decadence and consumed with the desires of selfishness. This will in time create a spirit of spitefullness towards each other. We must embrace the values and precepts god has layed out for us. This will create an environment that produces unity in all aspects of life. It is refreshing to see a politican actually stand for something that will benefit everyone (faith based programs). I also believe that faith in god is a choice that every individual must decide for themselves. I do not believe there should be state sponserd religion. I think that the state should be allowed to fund churches to support people who are in need of charitable assistance. Example: Programs such as job placement, counciling, and a sense of community.
