Karri, WI Strongly Disagree

... His word is crystal clear ...

January 27,2004

Our country was founded on the Word of God. His word is crystal clear regarding marriage. It is clear on homosexuality. We need God/Jesus in our governmental decisions.

Heidi, PA Strongly Disagree

... This allows me to have faith ...

January 27,2004

If someone has faith, I'd want to know. This allows me to have faith in them because they have faith in God (leading them).

Kent, OH Strongly Agree

... should not need the crutch ...

January 27,2004

Our political leaders should not need the crutch of religion to make decisions or get thru the day. They should be strong enough to make decisions based on merits and what their voters put them there to do.

Luben, NY Strongly Disagree

... justice outside our belief ...

January 27,2004

I think that religion is deeply rooted in every person and to try to find moral values and justice outside our belief in God Who is the All Righteous Judge is wrong and disserving the country.

Kathy & Ti, TN Strongly Disagree

... who think that they are the higher ...

January 27,2004

If we have leaders who think that they are the higher power, we have Hitler.

Barbara Zi, NY Strongly Agree

... shove their beliefs down another's throat ...

January 27,2004

I think it's fine if a leader looks to his/her religion for guidance on an issue, but it's not acceptable to create a law based on a particular faith which is meant to govern us all. Civic law and religious law are two very different things and it's unconstitional for a government, state or federal, to shove their beliefs down another's throat in the guise of a law.

Jo-ann, FL Strongly Disagree

... love and unity to move forward ...

January 27,2004

America was founded on the belief of God and his fundamental rules and direction of mankind and the development of the world. Without him we have mayhem, which has been historically revealed. We need love and unity to move forward in a time where detached agendas are priority.

Mary, VA Disagree

... That must include the president too. ...

January 27,2004

The first amendment protects all Americans' practice of religion. That must include the president too.

Olliver Ma, WI Strongly Agree

... very scary scary America ...

January 27,2004

Faith --- you would need to figure out what Faith was correct and was everything in that Faith as interperted by Human Beings correct.... so to start to set Civil Policy from any Faith Based norm could be a very scary scary America

Joanna, DC Undecided

... must be good for all ...

January 27,2004

Again the wording of the question makes it hard to answer. Political leaders with strong religious convictions will inevitably be influenced by their beliefs. However, they should also be influenced by facts. And they must recognize that others have different religious beliefs and some people are not religious. Policy decisions must be good for all the people. Government should not be about imposing one's religious beliefs on others.

James, NJ Strongly Agree

... it clearly is insulting ...

January 27,2004

Politicians should never allow their own religious beliefs to influence their public policy statements as it clearly is insulting to those who don't share those beliefs.

J. Roy Bur, PA Strongly Agree

... downhill to oblivion ...

January 27,2004

Without God this country is doomed to go the way other civilizations have gone- downhill to oblivion

Carl, VA Strongly Agree

... who make their decisions based on facts ...

January 27,2004

Faith means belief in something that cannot be proved, in other words superstiition. I prefer leaders who make their decisions based on facts and logic rather than hopes and prayers.

Anna, NY Strongly Agree

... It's worked so far ...

January 27,2004

Political leaders may have their own religious beliefs but they should not use their personal beliefs to shape the lives of every member of our society. The core of our country was built on the basic notion of separation of church and state. It's worked so far, let's keep it that way.

Susan, TX Strongly Agree

... with caring for the less fortunate, ...

January 27,2004

The only "higher power" I see Bush listening to is the CEO's and corporate leaders who want only their way to riches, not the way of Democracy, not the way of "We The People".
How wonderful it would be if the "higher powers" of all our nations religions came together and practiced Democracy with honor, honesty, and great pride in our ability to live as one people in this nation of many cultures and religious backgrounds, with caring for the less fortunate, jobs that make our nation self-sustaining, and profound respect for the POWER of an ultimate quality education for all citizens. Instead we bicker and fight and only increase the size of the pocketbooks of the few.

Jim, TN Disagree

... need all the help they can get ...

January 27,2004

Political leaders need all the help they can get. It's the results of the decisions that matter, not the process.

Andrea, CT Strongly Agree

... strongly disagree with political leaders ...

January 27,2004

I consider myself to be a deeply religious person and openly share my belief in God. However, I strongly disagree with political leaders who espouse religious beliefs with the intent to influence public policies that disenfranchise the many millions of Americans who do not share the same religion or beliefs.

Tim, MD Strongly Agree

... work for the good of all ...

January 27,2004

A Politician should be secular and work for the good of all people, not the good of his Religious Constituency.

James Catc, NJ Strongly Disagree

... by definition violate ...

January 27,2004

Religious views should be strictly personal and any attempt by a politician to make decisions based on their religious must by definition violate the rights of all who don't share those beliefs.

Natalie, NY Strongly Agree

... not based on what the holy scripture says ...

January 27,2004

I strongly agree with the above statement. This country was made with the radical idea that religion would remain outside government. This should remain now and for always. Political leaders and representitives need to make decisions not based on what the holy scripture says but on what benefits the most people and humanity in general. Many governments are so far removed from the concept of government just because of religion. If we allowed this to happen then we would have lost what the whole idea on what the constitution was based on.
