Arlene Lir, SC Strongly Agree

... God has mercy ...

January 27,2004

I totally agree this country without god in it is domed. I find it unearthly to be on this earth and not believe that there is a higher being or and existing in our lives. It's sad to think that some of us can get up every morning and think that it's luck that were still here, God has mercy and that is the reason we all get up in the mornings.I pray that God will continue to show mercy upon us and that he will remove from office those who don't believe in him.

Charles, VA Strongly Agree

... opinions on my religious ...

January 27,2004

On what basis would you prefer to have a leader base his decisions? I have seen leaders torn on the abortion issue trying to separate what they personally consider truth in stating that they are pro-choice. It has to tear a Catholic politician right down to their core. I am happy in basing my decisions and opinions on my religious beliefs, or else I don't have any beliefs.

Virginia, WY Strongly Disagree

... includes his devotion to God ...

January 27,2004

My President was elected by the majority. He was elected because of his character. His character includes his devotion to God. You cannot separate God from his people.
I would hope he always sought God's will in the decisions he makes.

Micci, PA Strongly Disagree

... I want my leaders ...

January 27,2004

If our leaders cannot use their own minds and hearts to guide us, then they are just puppets, figureheads. I want my leaders to have a good family value system and to keep this country morally grounded in our roots, the roots of christianity!!!

Anita, IL Disagree

... I draw the line ...

January 27,2004

One's faith is part of who one is, and it is a positive thing to be a spiritual, faithful person AS LONG AS that individual does not seek to impose their faith on anyone else directly through their elected office. That is unconstitutional. However, if a politician's faith leads him/her to be honest, trustworthy, and ethical, then faith is fine. But I draw the line where the Constitution does: at the separation of religion and the State.

Jeff, KY Strongly Disagree

... cannot divorce themselves ...

January 27,2004

Political Leaders cannot divorce themselves from their faith.

Beth, GA Disagree

... I want to know ...

January 27,2004

A person's religious beliefs are the cornerstone of their character, focus and actions.
If a person hides what his basic belief system involves, then he is at best a hypocrite or actor.....but then that describes most of our politians. As a voter, I want to know if a candidate believes in a Creator/Savior.

Diane, TX Strongly Agree

... extreme religious beliefs ...

January 27,2004

This is almost as impossible to ask for. It is like saying, don't vote for or against something just because you have had an experience once in your life that might influence your opinion. We are what we have been through and what we have been taught. Although, extreme religious beliefs should not be used in these decisions, or the sole reason in the desicion-making process.

Les, TX Strongly Agree

... leaders need to put their personal ...

January 27,2004

All leaders need to put their personal beliefs aside.

Linnie, TX Disagree

... are a nation of laws ...

January 27,2004

People will always be somewhat influenced by their religious beliefs but they should not let those religious beliefs be primary in their decision making when it involves public policy. I should be free to have decisions made without regard to the religious ideas of office holders. We are a nation of laws and those laws, the constitution should reign supreme, never religious beliefs.

Gerald, TX Strongly Disagree

... leaders lie or hide ...

January 27,2004

Our beliefs make us who we are. If political leaders lie or hide their beliefs, how can we believe they will do what they say they will do? Yes, I do think their policies should reflect their beliefs. They are not always going to win or get their way, but it would show alot about their character.

Lillian Du, GA Disagree

... how could it NOT influence decision making .. ...

January 27,2004

I don't think you can separate a person from their belief system ... If you truly believe something is right or wrong, how could it NOT influence decision making ...

Kathy, NC Strongly Disagree

... needs to have tolerance ...

January 27,2004

How can a person separate their faith from policy decisions? If a person takes their faith seriously, and belives that their faith influences everything that they do on a daily basis, then yes, faith, and beleif should help a person make dicisions in every avenue and walk of life. Realizing that not all have the same belifes, and therefore the political leader needs to have tolerance for those people.

Adonai, NY Strongly Agree

... do not expect a politician ...

January 27,2004

I do not expect a politician to divorce herself from her core beliefs. But her votes should not be dictated by the church.

Suzanne, LA Strongly Agree

... These teachings instruct us ...

January 27,2004

I believe strongly in the teaching of Jesus Christ. These teachings instruct us in meeting the needs of our country, our neighbor, our family and ourself. My life is very happy and joyful. My strength to get through tough days come from a God that loves me.

Jason, GA Strongly Agree

... they are ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES ...

January 27,2004

The majority of politicians have forgotten that they are ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES of the people. Their own personal religious views are personal. They have nothing to do with unemployment, healthcare, taxes and corporate scandals.

Dave Vicke, FL Strongly Disagree

... The wise man built ...

January 27,2004

Decision making grounded securely in faith ensures not being blown in every direction. The wise man built his house upon the rock.

Joyce, NY Strongly Agree

... He has done little ...

January 27,2004

The President of the U.S. is supposed to preside equilly and indiscriminately over all our citizens. To include religious organizations in his proposals or making references to his religious views is offensive to some and out of place since it is against the Constitution. G.W.Bush is the most irresponsible President yet! He has done little for the welfare of the people beyond his special interests. The Religious Right is one of them.

Rick, IL Strongly Disagree

... standing behind his faith ...

January 27,2004

Because of Bush standing behind his faith and love for God I will be voting for him this year. I am 43 and never voted Republican and I still am not voting Republican...I am voting for the man that stands with God!

Alan, IA Strongly Disagree

... founded on a strong faith ...

January 27,2004

Our Nation was founded on a strong faith in God and is very evident that they acted upon their convictions. If I did not try to live by and act according to my religious beliefs then life has lost its purpose and satan has won.
