In Kandahar, we heard that President Karzai had just survived
an assassination attempt while at his brother's wedding
ceremony. A young boy jumped on the gunman and saved the
president's life, but was killed by U.S. Special Forces
fire.
All we could find out was that the would-be assassinator
had worked as a guard of the warlord Gul Agha Shirzai,
then governor of the province. He'd been hired two weeks
before the attack.
