BLOWS AGAINST THE WARLORDS

Sarah's work with Afghans for Civil Society put pressure on the Afghan government to crack down on warlords. Governor Gul Agha Shirzai was effectively asked to resign his command in Kandahar and take a post in Kabul.

Gul Agha Shirzai maintains strong business ties to Kandahar and is rumored to still have full control of his militia of approximately 20,000 men. He has recently expressed interest in running again for governor, in the next election.
