Thunder in Guyana
by Suzanne Wasserman
A Jewish nursing student from Chicago, Janet Rosenberg Jagan became the first American-born woman to lead a nation. Appointed president of Guyana in 1997, she was considered to be among the founders of modern-day Guyana, along with her husband, Cheddi Jagan. In Thunder in Guyana, Jagan’s filmmaker cousin interweaves family history and Guyanese history to reveal the extraordinary life story of one unconventional woman.
