Kyung Sun Yu (director/producer) makes her directorial debut with TEST OF COURAGE. While on the staff of The Working Group, Yu co-produced the documentary specials TIES THAT BIND (1996) and PRISON LABOR/PRISON BLUES (1994), which won a Silver Hugo at the Chicago International Film and Video Festival. Yu, a freelance writer, is a recent contributor to New California Media, a multimedia project bringing together members of the state's ethnic press.
Gary Mercer (director/producer/director of photography) is an award-winning photojournalist whose career spans 30 years in news and documentary production. He has won numerous national awards including three Emmys and a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for a piece he produced that commemorated the firefighters and victims of the 1989 Oakland Hills fire. Mercer has been a senior camera operator for San Francisco's KRON/Channel 4 News for nearly 20 years. He has also been involved with The Working Group's documentaries since the independent production company was founded in 1988.
