Synopsis of Episode 11
Back

At a barbershop, JEAN and DERARD discuss their girlfriends. Jean has decided to give MARIA a Promise Ring, declaring his love and intent to eventually marry her. He realizes how much she means to him and wants their relationship to grow. When he gives her the ring in class they have a very emotional moment together.

Derard has been getting closer and closer to his girlfriend, who he met at work. He thinks she's "the one," and they move in together.

JET is trying to become a model, and goes to two agencies. He doesn't get very far, though, and feels like he's way out of his league. "Those people are so not me!"

KARLA tells the school psychologist that her mother is never proud of her no matter what she does, and that hurts. The psychologist encourages her to be proud of herself, even if her mother never is.

ELIZABETH reveals that her father left the family years ago, and she is still struggling to come to terms with that. "Why would you create a child and then just leave?"

JACQUELINE, who is overwhelmed by school, takes a week off. In her bedroom, she discusses all of the various "antidepressant" drugs she is taking, which don't seem to be particularly helping her emotions.

Karla discovers that she has passed all of her classes half-way through the year -- a first! She is extremely happy and proud. She talks about how her mom, a college graduate in Guatemala, works as a nanny -- and how people put her down for that, but she's proud of her.

Jacqueline has her final evaluation for Special Ed. She is in the top bracket of intelligence, but still deeply doubts herself. The psychologist struggles with Jacqueline to help her recognize her abilities.

KENDRA has decided to run for prom queen, but wants to back out before giving her speech. "I'm not popular, so what am I doing?" She finally gets up the courage and gives a moving, brave speech.
