Synopsis of Episode 6
Back

UNITY has organized and leads a "Black Male Summit" on campus to appeal for peace and unity and fight the "slave mentality" that still exists.

BORIS becomes increasingly alienated from his friends and other students on campus. Dr. Shusterman worries about his health, which also irritates him. He just wants to be left alone to do his work.

In Academic Decathlon, Mr. Sugden, the advisor, warns everyone that they are in competition to get on the team. ELIZABETH is convinced she won't make it, and feels inferior to the other high-powered kids on the team. But to her surprise, she makes the team.

DANIELLE, a doggedly optimistic African-American cheerleader, rides the bus two hours every day to get to school. Her goal is to go into broadcasting, and she is one of 25 girls who were called back after the first audition for a teen radio show. But she is nervous and, frustrated, believes that she did "really, really bad."

Jen is taking a class in Chicano Studies to know her roots. Her father, it turns out, is Mexican (and her mom is white). She goes to a Mecha conference, but thinks they just want to categorize everyone. She can't really define herself as any nationality because she's a "mutt". "I'm neither here nor there... I'm Jennifer."

Following the success of the Black Male Summit, Unity attends a meeting of the Latino Student Association to promote understanding. He wants all "minorities" to unite and fight for social justice.

MARIE and her father are always arguing about school. Even her friends have stopped calling because they fear being lectured to by Marie's father. One thing Marie knows for sure, she is NOT staying at home for college.
