Nguyen, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania talks about the double-edged sword of close families in ethnic communities-and the pitfalls of heavy reliance on family elders for child support. Melvin Delgado, Professor of Social Work at Boston University, explains that even though culturally tied to their families, Latino elders often are eager to get out into the community where they relish volunteer work outside the family unit.
