Alan: Where you've accomplished so much how do you avoid kind of living in the past?

Carl Reiner: Oh, if you're living in the past that means you are not doing anything. The only reason you use the past is to remember good recipe. You need the past to remember good recipes for food and for behavior.

Alan: Do you ever think about retirement?

Carl Reiner: No, no. Yeah, the retirement is death, death is retirement. You don't have to retire, it will retire you. Life will retire you.

Alan:
Is that... I find myself the first thing I do in the morning is read the obituaries.

Carl Reiner: I read the, I read the obits to see if I should continue my day.

Alan: [laughter]

Carl Reiner: I'm not in there I'll go, I'll keep going.
