Ronni Bennett: I'm wondering if like me what you imagined 65 to be. How much is like you imagined it when you were say in your 20's and how much is it different than, particularly like you know I related to your high-heeled shoes - God I miss wearing high-heeled shoes everyday. [laughter]

Martha Reeves: Think about dancing in them.

Ronni Bennett: Yes.

Martha Reeves: Sometimes when I lay in bed my feet just talk to this... aaaa [laughter]. I try and soak them sometimes that works sometimes just massaging them eases them a bit. Um, when I turned 13, teenage was a big deal to me. Forty was a nervous breakdown. I say that because 40 just seems like that's the oldest person in the world. I started seeing gray hair and I started having problems with my teeth and there is a change in your skin, your agility. There certain things that you have to slow up doing and I said O.K. I didn't think I'd live past 35 from the lifestyle. You know, traveling around and drinking and smoking, but then when I turned 50 I realized that I'm getting better, not older. I'm retaining things, I've got wisdom now that I don't have to look back and say "Oh I'm sorry I did that" I know better than that now. I know that I know better than that. People don't play you so crazy. You know of lot of relationships, you know I'm a single parent and a lot of relationships men just thought you were absolutely an idiot. They would tell you things that you were supposed to believe and knowing that they were lying, they could look you in the face and lie. And I realized then at 50 that's O.K. you I know a lie from the truth. I have a clear head and you get more common sense the older you get. You realize that people push you around a little bit more than you know if you were a young person they challenge you and your wisdom will pull you through every time. And I love myself more everyday, because I am older and I love it. Here's the stuff...you have to appreciate aged things. People like antiques; well I'm a good antique.
