Reuben Martinez Transcript
Alan Rosenberg: Reuben, all those years cutting hair, and I gotta say, your hair looks absolutely fantastic! You were cuttin' hair all those years, was this the master plan?
Reuben Martinez: No, no, that's not the way it was. I started reading at a very young age, and I used to hide because I grew up in a household where my mom and my dad--we were inhibited. In other words, because I was reading, I knew the current events as a ten-year-old, which my dad, my stepfather didn't, and my mom didn't, so when I would speak up-- "Shhh." So now I feel like a teenager because all those teenage years at home, I couldn't do anything. Now I'm doing them at an age that I can, and nobody's telling me to "shhh." Everybody's telling me they want more. It's a new career, it's a new change for me, and I'm enjoying it, and I'm floating.
Alan: You know, I've taken on a new challenge in my life as well. I'm president of the Screen Actor's Guild. In the beginning, I woke up in abject fear every day. Does fear play at all a part? You get out of your comfort zone--was fear a factor at all?
Reuben: As we get older, we become stronger, and I'm doin' it, I'm doin' it at this age. If it's a challenge, let's go after the challenges.
Alan: Right on!
Reuben: If it's something that we've never done before, let's do it for the first time-- at any age!
