A Conversation with Bob Newhart Transcript
Alan: What's the best part about growing older?
Bob Newhart: The best part of growing older is finding out what's important and what isn't important and finding out all those things that you thought were so important are really so unimportant, and the really important things like your wife, your kids, your grandkids, those are the really important things. I remember I was doing a show at Paramount, and it wasn't doing well in the ratings, and I was kind of, you know, how do we punch it up? And then one of my grandkids was sick, and the show just didn't seem that important. It just--okay, so if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
Alan: When you were a younger man, you probably would've been more obsessed.
Bob: Agonized, yeah, I agonized, and every show was more important than the last.
