Mary Powell's ancestors came to San Francisco in the 1830's, where she now lives. In her Russian Hill home, Mary creates dishes based on her grandmother and great-grandmother's recipes, which are rich in many ingredients that are seldom used in today's low-fat cooking. Like the Bavarian Dampfnudel, they contain an abundance of butter, cream, and eggs -- creating a heavenly taste not often found in contemporary desserts.
