Roberto Donna was born in the Piedmont Region of Italy
and is a fervent advocate of authentic Italian cuisine. He arrived
in Washington, DC at age 19 after working in kitchens throughout
Europe. Four years later in 1984 he opened Galileo. An instant success,
it earned him a strong following and a reputation as one of the
National Capital Area's finest chefs. Donna now owns seven restaurants
in Washington, many having earned prestigious industry awards. He
is the 1996 recipient of the best chef in the mid-Atlantic award
from The James Beard Foundation and is active in a variety of local
and national nonprofit organizations. He is the author of one book,
Cooking in Piedmont with Roberto Donna.
