Nixon's 1972 Historic Trip to China FLASH VERSION
Marking a turnaround in U.S. policy, President Nixon visited China in 1972 -- the first time a U.S. president had visited the communist nation -- paving the way to normalizing diplomatic relations. Lester Crystal, president of MacNeil/Lehrer Productions, was a television producer at the time and recalls his experiences covering the trip.
