Pop music icon Michael Jackson was pronounced dead Thursday after being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital, leaving behind an artistic legacy that began as a child in the Jackson Five and ended on the cusp of a 50-concert comeback effort set to start next month in London. He was 50.

As a child, Michael Jackson was born on Aug. 29, 1958, in Gary, Ind. At age 5, he began performing with four of his six brothers as the Jackson Brothers, which later became the Jackson 5.
