About 3 million Colombians are refugees in their own country, forced to leave their homes by FARC rebels or from violence caused by paramilitary groups. Children of displaced families are especially vulnerable and sometimes have difficulty getting to school. Some help comes from the government and aid organizations.

| The civil war in Colombia has forced many to leave their homes and live in some of the country's poorest neighborhoods, such as Ciudad Bolivar in south Bogota, according to Human Rights Watch. |
