Washington Corruption Probe
The January 2006 plea deal between the Justice Department and Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff made public for the first time a widespread investigation into possible corruption among lawmakers, other government officials and key lobbyists. The investigation also launched efforts in Congress to revamp lobbying rules.

Former Interior Department Official Pleads Guilty
Former Deputy Interior Secretary J. Steven Griles pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice Friday for trying to conceal the nature of his relationship with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. His plea makes Griles the highest-ranking Bush administration official to be convicted in the scandal surrounding Abramoff.
