A therapeutic riding program at Fort Myer in Arlington, Va., helps injured soldiers with their physical and mental recovery by having them ride horses usually used in the formal funeral processions in Arlington National Cemetery. Two participants and one of the "side walkers" describe their experiences.

| Retired Army Staff Sgt. Michael Cain, whose right leg was amputated below the knee, is from Wisconsin and now lives in a house at Walter Reed. He was wounded by a land mine in Iraq and was shot twice after the explosion. |
