Hurricane Gustav Swamps Gulf Coast FLASH VERSION
Hurricane Gustav swept through southwestern Louisiana on Sept. 1, pelting the state and surrounding region with heavy rains and winds surpassing 100 mph. Despite worries the storm surge would undo repairs to New Orleans' levees following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the floodwalls appeared to hold.
