NASA Launches Orbiting Carbon Observatory FLASH VERSION
NASA is set to launch its Orbiting Carbon Observatory satellite on Feb. 23. Atmospheric scientists and climatologists are expecting the satellite's measurements of atmospheric carbon dioxide to dramatically improve their knowledge of the earth's natural carbon cycle.

Orbiting Carbon Observatory, The Orbiting Carbon Observatory is smaller than many of NASA's other earth-observing satellites. As Aviation Week's Michael Mecham estimates, it's "about the size of a phonebooth." It will make approximately 4 million measurements each week of atmospheric carbon dioxide around the globe.
