As Polar Year Ends, Researchers Dig Into the Data
April 10, 2009
UPDATE
A period of intensive study of the Earth's polar caps, called the International Polar Year, ended in March, leaving researchers with a bounty of data to sort through to help inform the next generation of polar research.

The mission of the IPY was to get a clearer picture of what is happening at the poles, and how they interact with the land, oceans and atmosphere, in order to improve the scientific understanding of how they might impact the global climate and societies in the future.
